Tonight, on an all new episode of Top Chef Masters on Bravo, the remaining seven contestants are put to the surf and turf challenge as the champions round continues. Find out which six chefs will be moving on and which one is sent packing! Keep reading for all the details!
After Carmen’s elimination last week on Top Chef Masters on Bravo, we’ll watch as the seven contestants dwindle down to six tonight. Up first was their quickfire challenge. After Kelly has the chefs draw knives with names of characters from The Simpsons, she goes on to explain that the quickfire challenge will consist of them creating a dish that character would like. Judging the quickfire dishes would be the creator of the show, as well as the writer of the show and one of the voices from The Simpsons.
During the challenge, Tony put down a pan of bacon grease for his dish, which Susur accidentally used, which left Tony’s dish not among the judges favorites. Susur definitely had the most creative dish with his portrait of Marge Simpson, complete with blue/purple hair made from purple mashed potatoes…pretty good for someone who has not seen the show! The top dishes were Jonathan, who had drawn Bart and gone with a spaghetti and parmesan with grilled ham and cheese, and Rick, who had drawn Homer and went with a sloppy joe made with shrimp. Despite his thoughts that he was not going win, it was indeed Rick’s Homer inspired dish that granted him the win and $5k for his charity.
Then it was time for the elimination challenge on Top Chef Masters on Bravo. This week, Kelly surprised the chefs with a surf and turf challenge. Not any surf and turf however, this challenge was all about exotic surf and turf. The ingredient list for this challenge included Kangaroo meat, Goat leg, duck tongue, black chicken, sea cucumber, monkfish liver, geoduck, and giant squid. Judging this challenge would be Andrew Zimmerman of Bizarre Foods and some of his friends and fellow bizarre food gurus.
Both Rick and Susur chose the black chicken and monkfish liver, leaving Rick sorry for choosing them as he knew that Susur, being Chinese had the upper hand with these ingredients so he would need to make something spectacular in order to beat Susur. Jonathan had an extremely tough time even coming up with a concept for his dish, even being at the supermarket did not give him any ideas. Most of the contestants struggled with how to properly cook these ingredients, but they made do with what they could do. Susur ended being the winner of the challenge with his black chicken veloute and poached monkfish liver. Coming in with the lowest score of the evening was Jody as her roasted goat leg was not cooked well enough, however they did like her geoduck chowder. This was the end of the road for Jody, who was sent packing this evening!
