Over the weekend, the top three American Idol finalists–Crystal Bowersox, Casey James, and Lee Dewyze–visited their hometowns to meet fans and perform in concert. Keep reading for more details on Dewyze’s Chicago visit which included throwing out the first pitch at a Cubs game…
Lee Dewyze spent all day Friday in Chicago, Illinois visiting friends, family, and fans for a segment that will appear on this week’s episode of American Idol. The aspiring singer was in awe at the outpouring of love and support from his fellow Chicagoans and overwhelmed with emotion more than once. “It was so intense,” Dewyze said of his visit which included throwing out the first pitch at a Chicago Cubs game.
Lee Dewyze also visited former teachers at Forest View District 214 High School and performed for 41,000 people at Arlington Park Racetrack. The American Idol hopeful started his day out delivering the weather report on Fox Chicago news where he joked, â€If music doesn’t work out, I can be a weather man.”
At his alma mater, Lee Dewyze motivated and encouraged the students with the story of his success. “People told me ‘no’ so many times, but things are worth trying,” he said. His biggest fan, perhaps, is his mother, Kathleen, who said, “I’ve never been more proud. He’s come a long way. It’s like a fairy tale.â€
The American Idol finalist finished his day off performing an acoustic set for over 40,000 screaming fans at Arlington Park Racetrack. “Today has been surprise after surprise, but this is honestly the best day of my life,†Dewyze said.
