Dancing With The Stars: Nicole Scherzinger’s ‘Life-Changing’ Win

May 26, 2010 11:00 AM by Nancy Floyd

It’s hard to believe that season 10 of ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars has come to an end, but last night Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and her dance pro partner, Derek Hough, were awarded the mirrorball trophy. The victory doesn’t come as too much of a surprise to fans of the show who considered Scherzinger a frontrunner from week one, but the Pussycat Doll and her partner were stunned by the win. Keep reading for more about Scherzinger and Hough’s reactions and what Evan Lysacek and Erin Andrews thought about their competition…

Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough danced their way to the top on this season of ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars. It was a close race between the Pussycat Doll, Olympic gold medalist, Evan Lysacek, and ESPN correspondent Erin Andrews, but Scherzinger seemed to shine from the beginning. After three months of competition, she and Hough were crowned the winners of ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars last night and awarded the mirrorball trophy.

“I’m kind of speechless right now,” Nicole Scherzinger admitted moments after winning. “I’m going to go into a room and cry. It’s not about the trophy. It’s beyond the trophy. The experience and the challenge and everything you go through — it’s a lot of life-changing experiences in three months and it’s just so intense.”

Scherzinger’s partner, Derek Hough, is no stranger to winning ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars (he nabbed the mirrorball trophy in season six with partner, Brooke Burke), but he wasn’t necessarily expecting another victory this time around. “I’m totally emotional,” Hough told PEOPLE after the show. “Nicole and I burst out into tears backstage after our Argentine tango. We were so overwhelmed with how happy we were with what was going on tonight. Win, lose, draw we were going to be happy. But to win is phenomenal.”

Fellow Dancing With the Stars competitor, Erin Andrews wasn’t too surprised to lose to Scherzinger. ”I knew from the first week that they would be the team to beat. They are just that talented,” Andrews said. Evan Lysacek agrees with Andrews and says he thinks Scherzinger and Hough deserved to win. “We all gave it our best shot, but Derek and Nicole were the best from day one. They inspired all of us and kept it going week after week and we’re very happy for them.”
