After months of speculation, former American Idol judge Paula Abdul has officially announced what her next TV role will be. She’s been named the executive producer, creative partner, and lead judge on Got To Dance, a new reality competition on CBS. She’ll also serve as a mentor and coach to the contestants on the show. Keep reading for more details on Abdul’s new show and how she feels about it…

Rumors have been flying for months about what Paula Abdul‘s next career move would be. After serving as a longtime judge on American Idol, Abdul departed the singing competition before the ninth season. Months ago, she hinted that she’d be returning to her roots for an upcoming television project. It turns out that project is the new CBS talent competition, Got to Dance, on which Paula Abdul will serve as an executive producer, creative partner, lead judge, coach, and mentor.

The reality competition will hold auditions for dancers of all types–as soloists or in groups–across the country. Selected dancers will have the opportunity to appear before Paula Abdul and a panel of expert dancers. The best of the best will compete in the semi-finals and finals round before one person or group is deemed the champion.

Paula Abdul is looking forward to her new role on Got to Dance. “I’ve spent the better part of my life teaching, mentoring, nurturing—working with so many talented people—and I consider myself truly blessed to be able to continue to do something that I hold so dear to my heart,” Abdul says..  “I am thrilled to be creative partners with Reveille, Shine, and CBS and to present the best new dance talent to American audiences. Each and every week we’ll showcase the challenges and successes of a fantastic group of dancers, as they perform and compete—compelling stories, exciting competition and amazing dance performances are guaranteed.”

“Paula is the perfect fit for Got to Dance…an accomplished dancer, choreographer and popular entertainment figure, she has a real appreciation for the talents our dancers will bring each week,” said Jennifer Bresnan, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming, CBS Entertainment.  ”As a creative partner, her expertise will provide great insight and a nurturing, creative energy both behind the scenes and on camera.”

More details about Got to Dance will be available on CBS.com.
