American Idol: Simon’s Last Day

May 27, 2010 05:26 AM by Christine McDow

You can say that Simon Cowell went out with a bang on American Idol during the season 9 finale.  After the interview he gave last week saying he was “bored”, we have to wonder if he was bored last night during the big show.   American Idol brought everything America wanted.  Did you get to watch Simon Cowell say goodbye last night?

Rumors started yesterday that Adam Lambert was not going to perform last night on the American Idol season 9 finale because he had a bit of an attitude, didn’t show up for practice, and producers simply didn’t want him around.  To start off Simon Cowell last night on the show he got saranaded by the American Idol top 10 and Alice Cooper as they sang School’s Out.  Then Simon Cowell was treated to a video montage…of himself!  What more could this man ask for.  It highlighted his last 9 years on the show and was funny and touching at the same time.  It left us wondering though what Paula Abdul’s send off would have been if given the chance for one last year.

After songs by Siobhan Magnus, Aaron Kelly, Michael Lynche and season 8 winner Kris Allen, Simon Cowell is haunted by his past.  Some of the most infamous and worst rejects of his American Idol career come on stage following a montage of the best “no’s” Simon has ever passed out.

Special guest singer Christina Aguilera performed with the top ten girls and special guest singers Hall & Oates performed with the top 10 boys.  After that more past winners, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood sang for America along with Reuben Studdart, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks,  and Jordin Sparks. (Where was Clay Aiken?)

The highlight for some however would have to be when Paula Abdul visited to say goodbye to her good friend Simon Cowell.  We think American Idol did pretty good by her and Simon.  What do you think?

The best concert all night though had to have been Janet Jackson’s at the end, right before the winner was announced.  We think Simon Cowell going away party was a success!

What did you think of Lee Dewyze winning it all?  Should the winner have been Crystal Bowersox instead?  What do you think Simon thought?   Read about who he picked to win and see if he was correct! Will you be watching his new show next year, X Factor?  Let us know!
