ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews may not have won ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars, but she’s taking a lot away from the competition. Having recently been the victim of a Peeping Tom, the third-place finisher (who was partnered with dance pro, Maksim Chmerkovskiy) wasn’t even sure if she wanted to join the reality dance competition in the first place. After enduring three months of strenuous competition and developing a close relationship with Chmerkovskiy, Andrews says that she feels like her life has been put back together. Keep reading for more details on how DWTS changed Andrews’ life and why Chmerkovskiy was exactly what she needed…
It was a tight race for the mirrorball trophy on this season of ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars, but ultimately Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough took home the prize. Although she didn’t win, ESPN sportscaster, Erin Andrews is taking home something more important than a trophy: a brand new life.
“This experience has meant everything to me,” Andrews said moments after being eliminated. “I knew that [Nicole Scherzinger and Evan Lysacek] were going to go head-to-head in this, but I came here under really crummy circumstances, and I just wanted to get my life back together and my smile back and I just wanted to be myself again. And you guys have been amazing, [the judges] have and my family up there and [Maksim] has just put my life back together.”
Erin Andrews’ experience on ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars was an emotional one that took her out of her comfort zone, but she’s grateful for it. “I am one of the best at what I do and you come into this and all of a sudden you’re not the best any more,†she said. “You just feel insecure, humbled, you’re getting criticized and corrected and it was a lot of medicine to swallow. And I had a lot to deal with off the ballroom floor. It was the perfect thing to happen to me.â€
Andrews is also grateful to her Dancing With the Stars partner (and possible love interest), Maksim Chmerkovskiy who has supported and encouraged her all season long. “I was a mess when I came here. He was exactly what I needed,†Andrews says.
It seems that Chmerkovskiy was equally affected by this season and partnering with Andrews. “It was a roller coaster,” he says. “I think we both learned a lot about each other and ourselves, and I learned a lot about myself. It’s been an amazing journey. I’ve come close before, but you know, this is obviously different. And I feel like we’ve won, and I certainly have.”
