David Archuleta can add the title of author to his resume. The 19-year old American Idol runner-up just released a new autobiography called Chords of Strength: A Memoir of Soul, Song, and the Power of Perseverance on June 1st. Keep reading for more details on Archuleta’s new memoir…

He may only be 19 years old, but David Archuleta already has enough life experience to warrant his own autobiography. Chords of Strength: A Memoir of Soul, Song, and the Power of Perseverance hit bookstores on June 1st and the American Idol runner-up is touring the nation on a book tour to celebrate its release.

David Archuleta found fame on season seven of American Idol, finishing in second place to winner, David Cook. At only 19 years old, he’s already released two albums (with a third in the works) and has found himself in the number 2 spot on the Billboard charts, all thanks to his stint on the reality singing competition. He chronicles his inspiring journey to fame in the new memoir.

David Archuleta says the idea for the book came from the onslaught on inquiries he received about his story. “A lot of people ask me questions…so I thought this is a really good opportunity just to explain to people about why I live the way I live, and my beliefs and the experiences that I have gone through and how I dealt with American Idol and the vocal paralysis,” said Archuleta.

Although he’s young, David Archuleta feels that he’s already had enough life experience to release a memoir. ”People do memoirs later in life, but I’ve had experiences. I wasn’t born yesterday,” Archuleta says. “I’m different from who I was two years ago.”

Despite the personal setbacks Archuleta has experienced, he hopes that his autobiography will be inspiring and uplifting to his fans. “I didn’t want people to read the book and feel sorry for me,” Archuleta said. “The reason that I wrote it was to hopefully help someone in some way. I want to be useful in life.”
