Bret Michaels is no stranger to reality TV. After two seasons searching for love on the VH1 dating show, Rock Of Love, he went on to star in and win NBC‘s Celebrity Apprentice this spring. Fresh off his Celebrity Apprentice victory and some recent medical issues, Michaels has signed a deal with VH1 to star in yet another reality show: Life As I Know It. Keep reading for more details about Michaels’ new TV gig and how it differs from his previous shows…
After spending years fronting the 80′s hair band, Poison, Bret Michaels made a comeback in recent years searching for love among a slew of sleazy women on two seasons of the VH1 dating show, Rock Of Love. This year, he tried his hand at a very different reality TV show, NBC‘s Celebrity Apprentice. Michaels managed to make it to the finals and win it all, despite undergoing some major medical setbacks along the way. Over the past few months, Michaels has been in and out of the hospital, recovering from a brain hemorrhage and warning stroke. His medical woes gave him a much-needed opportunity to reassess his life and what he wanted to be remembered for.
“I don’t want my legacy to be that I had a brain hemorrhage,” Bret Michaels tells the Associated Press. “I want it to be that I rocked, I treated people with respect and I made a lot of good friends along the way. I think that came back to me when I got sick. I truly believe if you’re a good person, and you spread love, then that love will come back to you.”
His recent victory on NBC‘s Celebrity Apprentice was a pleasant diversion from his medical troubles. Now, Michaels is back in front of the cameras working on another VH1 reality show called Life As I Know It. Just don’t expect to see any stripper poles or catfights on the new show. Life as I Know It will focus on Michaels’ relationship with his two daughters, Raine and Jorja, and the girls’ mother, Kristi Lynn Gibson.
“I think he’s genuinely happy to be alive and happy for all the things he has in his life, but he’s really always been that way,” says VH1 executive vice president Jeff Olde. “Bret is not a different person now than before his health issues. I think maybe his priorities have shifted, but they were already shifting.”
