The San Francisco Triathlon at Treasure Island is serving as an informal reunion for nearly 40 stars from NBC‘s The Biggest Loser. Previous contestants from several seasons of the hit weight loss show are gathering in the Bay Area this July to participate in the triathlon and meet racers. Keep reading for more details on which of your favorite stars will be there…
On July 9-11, close to 40 competitors from NBC‘s The Biggest Loser will come together to participate in the San Francisco Triathlon at Treasure Island. The landmark race has added two new events this year, a 5k and 10k race, which will allow participants to run alongside their favorite Biggest Loser contestants from seasons past.
Michael Ventrella, the most recent champion of NBC‘s The Biggest Loser‘s season nine, will appear at the event with 13 fellow season nine competitors, including runners-up Ashley Johnston and Daris George. Ashley and Daris’s mothers, Sherry Johnston and Cheryl George, will lead racers in the 10k event. The San Francisco Triathlon has also hinted that another special guest will be appearing at the event to lead participants in the 5k race.
Season nine winner Michael Ventrella hopes that his participation in the event will encourage at-home viewers to take control of their health and get in better shape. He desires to motivate fans with his continued weight-loss efforts. “Even though I won The Biggest Loser last month after dropping half my body weight, my journey to maintain a new healthy lifestyle is ongoing,†said Ventrella. “It’s all about continuing what I learned while on The Biggest Loser ranch, such as exercising with purpose, and participating in events such as the Triathlon at Treasure Island that help me stay on track and keep me motivated.â€
In addition to the 13 competitors from season 9, the triathlon will also feature appearances from The Biggest Loser alums, Cris Blackburn (season three), Hollie Self (season 4), and Neill Harmer (season 5), among others. The organizers of the San Francisco Triathlon at Treasure Island hope that the participation of former Biggest Loser contestants will be an inspiration and motivating factor in getting more people involved in this year’s race.
“Thanks to NBC‘s The Biggest Loser, people across America are realizing that triathlons and road races aren’t just for elite athletes,†said Terry Davis, president, Tri-California Events. “With our new 5K and 10K races, we are giving people of all fitness levels an opportunity to participate, including those new to the sport who are looking to jump start a healthy lifestyle.â€
