Helio Castroneves calls his new autobiography “honest and raw” and says that his stint on ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars actually inspired him to write it. The book, titled Victory Road: The Ride of My Life, was released last month and gives fans an insider’s glimpse into his life, career, success, and trials. Keep reading for more details on how Dancing With the Stars challenged and motivated the racecar driver to write his life story…
Helio Castroneves has had a wildly successful careers, filled with many highs and lows. The racecar driver won the Indianapolis 500 in 2001 and 2002, won ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars in 2007, and went on trial for tax evasion that same year. Now he’s decided to write an autobiography, detailing his victories and defeats. His new book, Victory Road: The Ride of My Life, was released in June and was inspired in part by his stint on Dancing With The Stars.
“After ‘Dancing with the Stars’ in 2007, I decided I wanted to write a book,” Helio Castroneves says. “I felt like I needed an opportunity to tell what happened through the course of the show and maybe inspire people to greatness. I wanted people to see me as I am — a positive guy who loves life. I wanted to tell people that they don’t need to go through a rough patch to be successful.”
Unfortunately for Helio Castroneves, on the heels of his Dancing With the Stars victory, he his a rough patch when he went on trial for tax evasion. The difficult trial made Helio Castroneves reevaluate the book’s tone and message. “It’s an honest, straightforward look at what I’ve been through — good and bad — in the course of my life,” he says about the book. “It covers everything. How I almost gave up on racing, how I found myself with Team Penske under tragic circumstances, how we all came together to win the Indianapolis 500 in 2001, and how the people around me and my faith in God saved my life. It’s about life’s obstacles and tragedies as well as its joys and triumphs.”
Of course, Helio Castoneves’  Dancing With the Stars victory is a major part of his autobiography. ”So much has changed for me in the past few years,” he says. “Winning Dancing with the Stars, the trial, my third Indy 500 victory and now fatherhood. I am so blessed, and I wanted to share that with people.”
