Real Housewives of New York City: Kelly Bensimon “Not Crazy” Just “Unpredictable”

July 14, 2010 11:00 AM by Nancy Floyd

Despite the fact that it’s been months since Bravo‘s The Real Housewives of New York City aired an episode featuring Kelly Bensimon behaving erratically towards her cast mates, the 42-year old model and single mother is still attempting to defend her behavior. She’s claimed to have had a “breakthrough” instead of a breakdown, took up the cause against “systematic bullying,” and deemed herself the victim in the situation. Not she’s trying (yet again) to set the record straight in a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, explaining that she’s not crazy, just unpredictable…

If you’re hoping that Kelly Bensimon, star of Bravo‘s The Real Housewives of New York City, is in therapy for her unusual, eccentric, and borderline scary behavior, you’re out of luck. The 42-year old model and single mother still doesn’t think the problem lies with her. ”I am not crazy,” she says. “I am unpredictable. I’m not in therapy.”

Kelly Bensimon blames her co-stars on The Real Housewives of New York City for the constant feuding and monumental blowup this season. She thinks their behavior is rooted in jealousy. ”Whether it’s my nail color, my hair color, or the shoes I’m wearing, everything about me bothers them,” Kelly Bensimon says about her cast mates. “They want to go to the parties I go to, they want to hang out with me, they want to do the things that I’m doing.”

Bravo’s Andy Cohen has a different opinion about the feud. He thinks Kelly Bensimon’s behavior wasn’t right and that the problem may lie with her. ”I think it was deeply disturbing. It seemed like she had a break of some kind, but I can’t say exactly what it was,” he says.

Despite the fact that she’s a single mom, Kelly Bensimon isn’t worried about the affect her behavior will have on her two young daughters. ”I tell my girls, ‘Your mom gets paid to engage in inappropriate behavior,’” she says. “It’s an amazing opportunity for them to see that being mean is not okay. I tell them, ‘If you’re in a situation like this, walk out. Don’t come back with jelly beans.’”

Regardless of the negative press and the tense situations, Kelly Bensimon is happy to be a part of a hit show. “I don’t have any regrets. I’m glad I went on Housewives because the show has made me more known,” she says.
