So You Think You Can Dance 7/15/10: Another Dancer Is Eliminated!

July 15, 2010 07:13 PM by Nancy Floyd

Another dancer will be eliminated on tonight’s new episode of So You Think You Can Dance, leaving only six dancers remaining! Since Ashley was injured and couldn’t perform last night, she’s automatically in the bottom three tonight. Which two dancers will join her? Keep reading for more details on tonight’s new episode…

Tonight’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance starts out with a fun, lively, and sassy Broadway routine choreographed by Tyce Diorio and featuring the top 7 dancers and All-stars. After the performance is finished, Cat Deeley reminds the audience about Ashley‘s injury and that she’ll be in the bottom three tonight. Cat Deeley introduces the judges and spends even more time plugging Nigel Lythgoe‘s made-up holiday, National Dance Day with a video montage of people dancing all around the world.

It’s time to find out the results of last night‘s voting. Lauren and Kent are the first two dancers to learn their fate. They both received stellar reviews from the judges for their two routines this week. Cat Deeley gives them a pretty good fake-out, but ultimately both Lauren and Kent are safe tonight and will be sticking around for another week.

Before the remaining dancers learn whether or not they’re in danger this week, it’s time for a special performance. Who is going to be taking the stage? Two dancers from (former So You Think You Can Dance judge) Mary Murphy’s dance studio! Excellent. Except that they’re 10. Literally. The youngsters dance to Jailhouse Rock and for some reason all I can think of is Toddlers and Tiaras. Seeing little kids doing grown-up things is sometimes really creepy. That’s probably why I have nightmares about those greeting cards with kids dressed as mini brides and grooms.

AdeChike and Billy are the next two dancers to join Cat Deeley for the results. Even though they both did a great job last night, one of them is going to be in the bottom three. The person joining Ashley and having to dance for his life is….Billy. Again. Next up, Robert and Jose take the stage to learn which of them will be rounding out the bottom three. It turns out that Robert is safe, meaning Jose will have to perform a solo and try to convince the judges to keep him around for another week.

Before the bottom three dancers take the stage to perform their solos, there’s another special performance. Two dancers, Jamar Roberts and Rachel McLaren, take the stage for a powerful and stunning contemporary routine. I’m just happy they’re adults. Following their routine, it’s time to learn more about two of this season’s All-stars: Twitch and  Comfort. After a brief background on these two hip-hop dancers, they join one another for an encore performance of a Dave Scott routine from season 4.

Next, Billy and Jose both perform their solos in hopes of convincing the judges to keep them in the competition. As always, Billy’s performance is strong, emotional, and full of technical brilliance. Jose’s B-boy routine is fun, powerful, and cool. Ashley doesn’t have the chance to perform since she’s still nursing her injury.

While the judges deliberate, brand new artist Christina Perry performs her single Jar of Hearts. Haven’t heard of her? Not surprising. Two weeks ago, she was a waitress, but after Stacey Tookey used her song for a routine earlier this season, she quickly rose to fame and found herself on the Billboard 100 chart.

Nigel Lythgoe, Mia Michaels, and Adam Shankman return from their deliberation to deliver their verdict. They love the intensity and passion that Jose brought to his solo. While they enjoyed Billy’s routine, they feel that he needs to work on showing more diversity. Regardless of their opinions of Billy and Jose, the judges have no choice but to eliminate Ashley who has been told by doctors that she needs three to five weeks of recovery time. Not surprisingly, Ashley is disappointed and heartbroken to leave the competition because of an injury. Two brilliant dancers removed from the competition because of injuries in a row. Who will be next??
