So You Think You Can Dance: Injury Responsible For Ashley Galvan’s Elimination

July 18, 2010 07:00 AM by Nancy Floyd

Yet another amazing contestant on So You Think You Can Dance has been eliminated due to a dance-related injury. Last week, frontrunner Alex Wong was forced to leave the competition after lacerating his Achilles tendon, and this week Ashley Galvan joins him after enduring a cracked rib. Keep reading for more details on Ashley’s injury and how she feels about her elimination…

And then there was one. Female, that is. Now that Ashley Galvan has been eliminated from So You Think You Can Dance, contemporary dancer Lauren Froderman is the only girl remaining in the competition. Ashley was eliminated on Thursday night after sustaining an injury. She cracked her rib on Monday and was forced to sit out of the competition on Wednesday night, automatically putting her in the bottom three on Thursday night’s results show. The doctors ordered her to rest for the next three to five weeks, leaving the judges no choice but to eliminate her.

Ashley bid the crowd, judges, and competitors a tearful farewell during Thursday night’s live results show after learning her fate. “It sucks,” she told People magazine after the show. “I feel like I wasn’t ready to go.”

The judges are disappointed as well, thinking that Ashley could go far in the competition. Mia Michaels has long since said that Ashley was her favorite female dancer in the competition this year and Adam Shankman felt that Ashley had a shot at making it to the finals. Unfortunately, the audience will never know how far Ashley could’ve gone. Fans will still get to see Ashley on tour with the other finalists from season 7. “Hopefully, I can rest up and get better so I can be great for that,” she said.

Now that Ashley has been eliminated, is there any possibility that a female (i.e. Lauren) could win the competition this year? Adam Shankman certainly seems to think so.  “Hell yes!” Adam Shankman told People magazine. “She absolutely has what it takes to represent. And she could win.”
