It seems everyone in Hollywood is desperate for  Simon Cowell‘s former job as a judge on American Idol and fans of the singing competition are eager to know who will be replacing the acerbic Brit. We’ve got an update on who is still in the running and where they stand.
Harry Connick, Jr.: After the crooner appeared as a guest judge earlier this season, he’s been a fan and critic favorite for the job. Fellow American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi is also  rooting for Harry Connick, Jr. “What I liked about Harry [as a mentor this past season] is he is put so much time into helping those contestants, and I think he really did help them,†she says. According to insiders, Harry Connick, Jr. is being considered by producers and he’d love to take the job if given the chance.
Bret Michaels: The Poison frontman has been lobbying for the position for awhile now and even Simon Cowell suggested that Bret Michaels would be the best choice for the job. ”I would love to do it, I would really bring it to the table,” Bret Michaels said. Despite his interest, insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter that Bret Michaels has been taken out of the running.
Chris Isaak: The singer is the newest star to be considered for Simon Cowell’s old job. Sources say that the Wicked Game singer met with producers at FOX twice now and is strongly being considered for the position.
Unnamed Celebrity: Sources at FOX say there’s another big name being considered for the job, but his/her identity has been kept a secret. Reportedly the same person is being considered for a spot on the judging panel on Simon Cowell’s new talent search, X Factor.
Producers for American Idol say that they hope the new judge will be ready to hit the road for auditions in September. Who do you think should replace Simon Cowell on American Idol?
