On last night’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance, there was yet another injury (Billy Bell hurt his knee and had to sit out), but also some amazing performances. Two of the routines that stood out for the top 6 finalists were AdeChike‘s moving lyrical hip-hop routine with Comfort and Lauren‘s booty-shaking number with Twitch. Keep reading to hear what the judges and dancers thought about the brilliant routines choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon…

Each of the top 6 finalists (minus Billy Bell who was sidelined due to an injury) took the stage three times on last night’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance. In addition to performing a solo, each dancer took the stage alongside a So You Think You Can Dance All-Star dancer as well as one of their fellow competitors. There were a lot of memorable performances last night, but the two that stood out above the rest were AdeChike and Comfort’s emotional lyrical hip-hop routine and Lauren and Twitch’s Wild West-inspired hip-hop performance. Both dances were choreographed by husband-and-wife team, Tabitha and Napoleon Dumo.

To commemorate the dance competition’s 150th episode, Kenny Ortega (director of High School Musical) served as a special guest judge on the panel. He was blown away by AdeChike and Comfort’s moving routine.  “He left nothing but some footprints and sweat on the stage when he finished that routine,” Kenny Ortega told People magazine about AdeChike. “It went beyond being a piece of choreography. It had cinematic qualities.”

AdeChike was thrilled to receive such high praise from a dance/choreography icon like Ortega. “For him to love what I did is amazing,” AdeChike said. “I’m just on such a high right now. Even if I leave tomorrow I don’t care because it’s been such an awesome experience.”

Lauren managed to impress the judges with her high-energy hip hop routine, as well, breaking their preconceived notions about her as a dancer. “Most people look at me and they’re like, ‘Oh, white blonde girl. Yeah, sure that’s going to work with hip-hop,’” Lauren says. “But I wanted to prove them wrong. And I think I did.”

Her All-Star partner, Twitch, was equally impressed with her abilities on the dance floor. “You see the blonde white girl, but have you seen her butt?” Twitch said. “You can’t really base it on the white girl thing. She breaks that barrier.”
