Despite Serena Palumbo’s best attempt to “woo” the judges with a song last night on Food Network, sadly her dream of becoming The Next Food Network Star was put to rest. That didn’t stop her from taking some time to answer a few questions about her experience on the show. Keep reading to find out what’s next for Serena!
While Serena Palumbo did not win the judges over with her song, maybe she should try out for American Idol next. Here is what Serena wanted her fans to know about her and her experience on The Next Food Network Star on Food Network.
Question: What part of Italy is your family from?
Serena Palumbo: Salerno, Italy.
Question: If given another chance, what would you do differently?
Serena Palumbo: I probably would not have panicked as much during the camera challenges. It’s funny because I do a series of webisodes online so I should be used to the camera, but my nerves got the best of me.
Question: Do you think signing during the camera challenge was a bad idea?
Serena Palumbo: It was a bad idea, very bad idea. The reason I was prompted to do this was because we were told by the judges that by week seven we should be able to do something memorable during this challenge. I felt the most I could do was them feel like they were in an Italian Trattoria, where they play guitars and sing to you. Sometimes you take risks and they work and other times they don’t, this was one of those times.
Question: How was The Next Food Network Star different than you expected?
Serena Palumbo: I was not surprised that it was so challenging and intense as I had read alot of the previous winners’ interviews. It was more like a contact sport at than a cooking competition in certain circumstances, and that surprised me. It was physically engaging to the point that when I went home, my husband immediately asked me what I did to lose so much weight.
Question: What was the most fun part of The Next Food Network Star?
Serena Palumbo: I would have to say, and this may surprise you, but the people whenever we had an event. The Santa Monica Pier, or the lunch truck, there was always people asking for advice and tips. I appreciated it a lot and I loved the warmth of the people I met.
Question: How did being on the The Next Food Network Star benefit you?
Serena Palumbo: As a person when I applied and went to the audition, I wanted to prove to myself I could change my life. Being a lawyer is very challenging, but you get a little bored doing same thing all the time. This was exactly what I was looking for, something to challenge myself. It proved to me if I want something and I can do it.
From a professional standpoint performing so much on the show it was amazing because you end up having some serious skills.
Question: Who do you think is going to win?
Serena Palumbo: All of the contestants left are very good chefs. I do not know who wins and even if I did know, I doubt I would be allowed to tell. I would put my money on either Tom or Aarti though.
Question: What’s next for you?
Serena Palumbo: Obviously my day job as a lawyer. I did a couple events I organized over the weekend such as a cooking demo in NY at Bloomingdales. I have lots more of that coming my way. I also plan to keep sharpening my tools for one day presenting myself again in front of Bob and Susie….and Bobby Flay.
