The Next Food Network Star: The Final Five Cook For Eva Longoria Parker!

August 01, 2010 07:56 PM by Jennifer

It is down to the final five on an all new episode of The Next Food Network Star. The contestants not only have to show their true personalities, they must also cook for Eva Longoria Parker!! Keep reading to see who got sent home tonight!!

As the contestants enter the food star kitchen, they are happy to see Giada De Laurentiis, but surprised to see that the table before them is completely empty, which is unusual. Giada tells the contestants that they have forty five minutes to create a signature dish that represents their personality and their style, and present it to camera. Easy enough right? They thought so too, until Giada De Laurentiiscomes in a few minutes into the Challenge and tells them to stop working. She is throwing them a curve ball, telling them that they must incorporste their least favorite ingredientinto their dish. You could see that they are all not happy, and Giada says there are special guests there to bring them their most hated ingredient. As the door opens, in walks Aria’s mom and son with anchovies, okra for Aarti by her husband, white pepper for Tom by his fiancee, ranch dressing for Brad from his brother, and canned peas for Herb from his wife and twin daughters. Thank god because Herb was so homesick I thought he was going to drop out of the competition.

Brad made a risotto dish, while Aria made a neat looking mashed potato pizza. Herb prepared pork medallions with a pea puree, and Aarti made a spiced fried rice dish. Tom made a tasty salmon dish with a cous cous made from white pepper. When they presented their dishes on air, they all seemed to do okay in front of the camera, but Aria won them over, and she gets an advantage at the Star challenge on this episode of The Next Food Network Star.

As they prepare for their next challenge and walk into the Food Star kitchen, the final five see that there are hearts on the table on front of them. Before they hear what their challenge involves, Giada introduces them to Todd English, partner in Eva Longoria Parker‘s restaurant Beso. Todd starts off by telling them that their dishes should always have emotion, so in each heart there was a different emotion that must inspire that particular contestants dish. Aria got the emotion melancholy, Herb had joy, Aarti drew fear, Tom ended up with jealousy, and Brad received the word surprise. Since Aria won the challenge, she was allowed to switch her emotion for the emotion of any other contestant, so she chose to steal Joy from herb. They each got a half hour to cook their dish at Beso restaurant, and along with the Bob Tuschman, Susie Fogelson, Bobby Flay and Giada, they will be cooking for and judged by Eva Longoria Parker
!! SO this made them even more nervous!!

Brad presented his dish first, and he made a surf and turf dish, but he did not have his steaks on long enough. They were cooked, but not as well as he would have liked them. The emotion he had was surprise, but it did not come across in his dish. But then the selection committee of Bob Tuschman, Susie Fogelson, and Bobby Flay ask Eva Longoria Parker
if she has any personal questions for Brad, and she asks him when he lost his virginity!! Boy did that break the ice, because after that, Brad was not as nervous as he was when he first walked out. But his food was not up to par this week. Next up was Tom, who drew the emotion jealousy, so the dish he presented was two different tunas, one seasoned beautifully and the other seasoned with fire, along with a great story about the jealousy between the two dishes. His presentation was great, and they loved his dish! Aarti goes next, and her emotion was fear. She made a rice and lamb dish, but she overcooked her rice, and she stumbled on her presentation. Her story to go along with it did not represent fear like it was supposed to. Herb goes to bring out his dish, but luckily he was able to fix it when it fell apart. His emotion, melancholy, was represented by his dish, which was a short rib and scallop dish that reminded him of his childhood and his mom. Eva Longoria Parker
said he had star quality, and Bobby Flay loved the dish.

Last but not least was Aria, who had the emotion joy. She plated her food without tasting it. She was so honest and true with her story, but the judges had a potato dish that was not cooked right. Eva Longoria Parker said she needed to articulate her words a little better. I think the fact that she was there made them all nervous.

After the challenge, Giada De Laurentiis has to say goodbye to them, as four of them are going on to compete in New York! As the group celebrates the last challenge before the final four depart, they are faced with the realization that one of them will be left behind and will not be The Next Food Network Star. As the judges deliberate, they decide that Tom not only had a spot on dish, but he impressed Eva Longoria Parker with his personality, and he was declar3d the winner, moving on to New York in the final four!

But now the judges had a hard decision, since Herb also had a great dish, he was safe, so it was down to Aarti, Brad and Aria. I like Brad and Aarti, they both have great personalities on camera, but Aria does bring it on when it comes to her cooking. So this had to be a hard choice. As the three wait nervously, Bob Tuschman says Aarti’s name and she starts to cry, only to hear him say she was safe! It gets real emotional as Susie Fogelson is also brought to tears when Bob tells Aria that she is also safe, and the Brad is being sent home! I was shocked! I thought for sure they would have kept him over Aria. I can;t wait to see next week when the final four go to NYC!!

What is wrong with the judges? Brad had the most amazing food since the beginning of the show. He has one bad week and they drop him? The other lady keeps cooking Indian food. How marketable is that at the end of the day?

Totally through with this show after this week. Brad was the only one who would have had a show worth watching.

The class in the kitchen has left the building!!!! Sorry to see Brad go; hopefully on to bigger and better things. Brad did have trouble with the camera but I thought he was working through that. I really can’t believe they kept Aria, how many times did we hear she was a ‘middle of the pack’? As far as the ones remaining, I have nointerest in Latin or Indian cuisine so count me as a no show for those stars. Guess that leaves only Tom; I’ll wait and see. Obviously, this show is about the person on stage and the food is secondary!

I definitely think they made a mistake by eliminating Brad. He had the best personality. I thought for sure that Aria would go, and there is only so far Aarti will get unless they are going for a chef to have a new show that focuses on indian food and spices. I think they made a mistake in letting Brad go.
