American Idol: Is Randy Jackson Leaving The Show Too?

August 04, 2010 01:00 PM by Nancy Floyd

Randy Jackson seems to be the only judge left standing at American Idol! Simon Cowell concluded his nine-year run as a judge after season 9 so that he could focus on his new reality TV endeavor, X Factor, Ellen DeGeneres announced last week that she was leaving the reality competition to focus on her career, and rumor has it that Kara DioGuardi has been fired. Will Randy Jackson stick around for American Idol‘s 10th season or will he bail on the show too? Keep reading for more details on Randy’s tough decision…

Without question, American Idol is going to look like a very different show next season. Three of the four judges are going to be missing! Longtime judge Simon Cowell has left to pursue another reality TV venture (X Factor), newbie judge Ellen DeGeneres quit after only one season to focus on her daytime talk show, and we hear that Kara DioGuardi has been fired after appearing on the show for the past two years. That only leaves Randy Jackson on the panel. Will he stick around for season 10?

A source close to Randy Jackson says that he doesn’t have much of a choice about appearing on American Idol. “He is still under contract,” the insider tells People magazine. “He’s a little fed up and torn with everything going on, but Randy is the kind of person who goes with the flow. He loves the show.” Despite the contractual obligation, the source says,  “He wouldn’t stay somewhere he wasn’t happy.”

So the question remains: will he or will he not jump ship before season 10? The source indicates that Randy Jackson has plenty of other things to occupy his time if he decides to abandon American Idol. “He has a million other projects going on,” the insider says. “Idol is a notch on his very accomplished belt.”

Rumors have been circulating that Aerosmith lead singer, Steven Tyler, and pop star, Jennifer Lopez, have inked deals to replace the missing judges, but FOX refuses to confirm the news. FOX entertainment chairman Peter Rice said, “No one has signed a deal yet on either side of the camera who wasn’t on the show last year. There are no specific deals with anybody.”
