Now that this season of ABC‘s The Bachelorette is over, Roberto Martinez and Ali Fedotowsky’s relationship is finally public after months of secrecy! After a whirlwind romance, unforgettable proposal in Bora Bora, and months of sneaking around, Roberto Martinez says he’s ready to “live a normal life” with his new fiancee. He opens up about proposing to Ali Fedotowsky, their instant chemistry, and what he thinks of competitor Chris Lambton…
Roberto Martinez certainly seems relieved now that the season finale of ABC‘s The Bachelorette has aired. After meeting and falling in love with Ali Fedotowsky on the show, Roberto proposed in Bora Bora and the couple has been in hiding ever since. Fortunately, their relationship has just gone public and Roberto couldn’t be more excited! “I just want to share with everybody,” he says. “I’m engaged. I’m happy. I met this amazing woman. There was that start of not being able to live a normal life, which has been the last couple months.”
Roberto Martinez and Ali Fedotowsky seemed to have an instant attraction and connection from night one when she gave him the first impression rose. “I didn’t know what to expect going into this,” he says. “As soon as I walked out of the limo and made eye contact with her it became very real in terms of emotions, wanting to get to know her. I knew there was something there right away. Getting the first impression rose, I was shocked…. That first night, that was it for me. It was awesome.”
As for his romantic and sweet proposal in Bora Bora, Roberto says he “had a sense” he’d be the recipient of Ali Fedotowsky’s final rose and asking her to marry him came naturally. “I always thought I’d be so nervous when I was going to propose,” he says. “Maybe it kind of shows it that way on the show, but I remember being so excited that day. I was so amped up to do it and start my life. There weren’t any nerves. It was just pure excitement.”
Typically when a suitor is walking into the final rose ceremony, he doesn’t know if he’ll be the last guy standing. Fortunately for Roberto, he was the only guy present (since Ali Fedotowsky sent Chris Lambton home the day before) but he didn’t know it. “Before she told me that [she sent Chris home], as soon as I walked up the steps I saw her smile and right then I knew this is the Ali I love and I know things are good,” he says. As for his former competition, Chris Lambton, Roberto has nothing but nice things to say. “Chris is a great guy,” Roberto says. “He’s got a lot of the same values I have. He’s close to his family like I am. We connected right away. I’ll be friends with Chris for a long time. We have a mutual respect for each other.”
Now that Roberto and Ali’s relationship is out in the open, they are looking forward to beginning a normal life together in San Diego. “She loves California,” Roberto says about Ali. “I’ve always said I want her to be happy and I can be happy anywhere so I spoke with my company and found an office in San Diego.”
Roberto Martinez says it’s the little, everyday occurrences that he’s most looking forward to in the future with Ali. “We’re both outdoors people, so I think a mixture of stupid little things people take for granted like grocery shopping, going to the park, going to dinner, kissing in public,” he says. “Just being able to be open about our relationship. Life is going to be good.”
