American Idol: Kimberley Locke Weighs In On Jennifer Lopez, Nigel Lythgoe & Jessica Simpson

August 05, 2010 12:00 PM by Nancy Floyd

With all the turnover at American Idol lately, the rumor mill is in overdrive about which stars will replace the recently departed judges. Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres are definitely done with the show and Kara DioGuardi has allegedly been fired. Which celebrities are joining the reality singing competition? Season two finalist, Kimberley Locke, weighs in on the speculation about Jennifer Lopez, Nigel Lythgoe, and Jessica Simpson joining the show…

American Idol is undergoing some major changes before it’s big 10th season and former finalist, Kimberley Locke, is pretty bummed about it. “I think it’s a mess,” Kimberley Locke tells Reality Cares about the recent cast changes. “It’s so sad that the shakeup is happening now in the 10th season. They should have thought about that in their contracts that if you’re here for the 10th season you have to stay and you can leave in the 11th season.”

Kimberley Locke speculates that Simon Cowell won’t ever return to the show for a reunion, but she’s happy to hear that former executive producer Nigel Lythgoe (who currently serves as the executive producer and lead judge on So You Think You Can Dance) might be returning to Idol this season. “The only good thing is I heard..Nigel Lythgoe is coming back, the producer …he’s very talented and I think he can save the show,” Kimberley Locke says.

As for the other celebrity rumors, it’s been said that Jennifer Lopez will be joining the judging panel permanently for season 10. Kimberley Locke thinks J.Lo is a great replacement for longtime judge Paula Abdul. “I understand the whole J. Lo thing because J. Lo is the equivalent of Paula,” Kimberley Locke says. “She is a Paula equivalent and she has star power.”

As for the rumor about Jessica Simpon vying for a spot on the show, Kimberley Locke says, “I don’t think that’s a good idea.” Although she’s quick to add, “She’d be entertaining, she’d probably be more entertaining than J. Lo.”

The people that Kimberley Locke feels for the most, though, are the future contestants of American Idol. “I think unfortunately this year for the contestants it’s going to be kind of sad because they are going to be overshadowed by all of this,” Kimberley Locke says “All the attention is going to be what‘s happening on the judges instead of what’s happening with talent.”
