As the star of Bravo‘s hit reality show, Flipping Out, Jeff Lewis can typically be seen, well, flipping out. His dry sense of humor, overwhelming sarcasm and condescension, and high maintenance personality and work ethic make for some really hilarious and entertaining television, but Jeff Lewis says he does have “a softer side,” believe it or not. He opens up about why viewers only see one side of his personality on the show (returning to Bravo tonight for season 4), the status of his relationship with former partner, Ryan Brown, and what’s new in his life…

When Jeff Lewis and company return to Bravo tonight for season four of Flipping Out, you can expect more drama, sarcasm, and dry wit from the cast. Jeff Lewis’ house-flipping business has taken a beating in recent years due to the downturned economy, but a successful interior design company has helped him turn things around. Still, successful or not, Jeff Lewis is still always on the verge of another flip out.

“I think there’s a lot of different sides and facets to my personality,” Jeff Lewis says. “I don’t think I’m misunderstood, but we see a lot of one side of me. It certainly would be nice to see the softer side, because there is a softer side once in a while.”

Although his company was hit hard by the economic recession, things have turned around for Jeff Lewis and his staff. “Things are a little better for my business,” Lewis said. “The main thing I was concerned with was drumming up business last season. I was certainly more concerned about money and the underlying stress last season.”

One big cause of stress for Jeff Lewis is his estrangement from former partner, Ryan Brown. “You will not see him on the show,” Lewis said. “I kind of pushed it as much as I can. I put it out there; I wanted to meet with him. He’s been back for about six weeks, but I’m not going to call him again, I’m not going to e-mail him again. If he wants to get together and talk, then I’m here and I think I’ve done what I can do. As sad as it is, I just realized a couple weeks ago, there’s a strong possibility we won’t be friends in the future and we won’t be able to work this out.”

Jeff Lewis has managed to find love though, although viewers won’t get to see his new relationship on the show. “The established structure of the show is that it’s almost exclusively about my business life,” he said. “The people that surround me are my employees, and that’s kind of my family. When the old relationship ended and the new one began, I felt like the show had been established. I don’t think this person wants to be on TV, either. It would be a red flag if they did want to be on television.”

Tune into Bravo tonight at 9pm EST for the season premiere of Flipping Out!
