Last night on FOX, Gordon Ramsay crowned Holli Ugalde the season seven winner of Hell’s Kitchen. The down to earth mom and new executive chef of The Savoy in England took a few minutes out of her busy day to talk with us about her experience on the show, whether or not she and Jay are an item, and life after winning Hell’s Kitchen. Keep reading for all the juicy details!
It’s no wonder Holli Ugalde won the hearts of millions on season seven of Hell’s Kitchen on FOX as she worked very hard and kept her composure the entire time. The busy mom took a few minutes to chat with us this morning and here is what she wanted to share with her fans.
RTVM: What was going through your mind as you were opening your door on Hell’s Kitchen?
Holli Ugalde: I was really just thinking “don’t fall down” to myself [laughing]. I was so nervous, I was thinking I was about to be really embarrassed or just die. I know as my door was opening, I turned around and looked at Jay to see if his door was opening as well. I started thinking maybe they forgot to lock the door. I was shocked to say the least.
RTVM: One thing I noticed with you versus a lot of the other contestants this season was that no matter how much pressure, you always managed to keep your composure. Do you think that was a key element in your win and how did you manage do that since others seemed to have so much trouble in that aspect?
Holli Ugalde: I definitely think that was a key element in my success. I am not a very emotional or high strung person, so keeping my composure is really just my personality. When you let the stress get to you or you startÂ to get cocky, you wind up making mistakes. It was so much more stressful there than people realize and honestly I think I just smoked a lot more to relieve that stress instead of losing my cool. I am very proud of how well I did and what I accomplished.
RTVM: I know all of your fans are dying to know….is there anything between you and Jay, or will there ever be?
Holli Ugalde: [laughing] There is absolutely nothing going on with Jay and I, nor will there ever be. Jay is a great guy, but honestly I could not believe some of things he said about me off camera….you know I just saw all those and was shocked. We’ve always had a flirty thing going on, and honestly under all that pressure you need something to have fun with. Aside from the flirting, nothing happened and nothing is going to happen with Jay and I.
RTVM: Can you fill us viewers in on the Australia trip? The show was so condensed last night it left most of us wondering if you and Jay had already went on the trip or not.
Holli Ugalde: No we haven’t gone there yet. Chef Ramsay opened a new restaurant in Sydney I believe and he gave us each a ticket to go there and make some wine and have some great food. And we do not have to go together, so it will not be a romantic getaway or anything like that as I already said [laughing].
RTVM: Can you tell us about working with Benjamin , is he really as arrogant as he came off on the show or was he just portrayed wrong?
Holli Ugalde: No he was not portrayed wrong, he really is that arrogant and cocky. I really tried to be friends with him, but couldn’t deal with him. I mean we were all there to win and I just don’t understand how you can be so bitter and confident at the same time. I know he is still bitter and look where that got him.
RTVM: Are you getting settled in at The Savoy in England yet?
Holli Ugalde: I haven’t been there, and I don’t have too many details right now. The grand opening is in October sometime so I am sure I will be bombarded soon with details and things to do, but right now I am still working on getting the menu together.
RTVM: Is your son excited to be headed to England, does he understand?
Holli Ugalde: He is so excited, so very excited. He keeps picking out castles for us to move into and I have to explain to him we can’t move in there [chuckles].
RTVM: What advice can you offer future contestants of Hell’s Kitchen?
Holli Ugalde: Never argue with Gordon Ramsay or laugh in the kitchen. Be confident in yourself and your cooking. Stay away from the drama and work hard.
