Despite the extensive charges filed against him for a ”political corruption crime spree,” former Illinois governor and Celebrity Apprentice competitor, Rod Blagojevich was only found guilty on one relatively minor charge. Blagojevich was on trial for 24 unique charges, which included lying to federal agents and racketeering, but after three weeks of deliberation, the jury reached a stalemate on all but one charge. Keep reading for more details on Rod Blagojevich’s conviction, his impending punishment, and how he feels about the verdict…

After three weeks of deliberation, the jury tasked with determining the fate of former Illinois governor and Celebrity Apprentice competitor, Rod Blagojevich found him guilty on just one charge. The jury couldn’t reach a conclusive decision on the other 23 charges against Blagojevich which included allegations that he tried to sell President Obama’s vacant Senate seat in Illinois.

The charge in which Rod Blagojevich was convicted of was perhaps one of the most insignificant, that he lied to federal agents. Blagojevich made it clear that he and his attorneys plan to appeal the verdict, but if he’s unable to, he could face up to five years in prison.

Outside the court, a crowd applauded Rod Blagojevich. He said to reporters, ”This jury shows you that the government threw everything but the kitchen sink at me. They could not prove I did anything wrong — except for one nebulous charge from five years ago.”

Although the  vast majority of the jurors were convinced of Blagojevich’s guilt, one lone juror held out on charge after charge. After the verdict was read, Blagojevich rejoiced in his good fortune. ”This fight is a lot bigger than just me and my family. This is a fight for the very freedoms that we as Americans enjoy,” he said. “The right to be able to be innocent, the right to be able to do your job and to not be lied about.”
