Last night on Masterchef on FOX, both Avis White and Sheena Zadeh was the first two victims of Gordon Ramsay‘s newest culinary chopping block as they were eliminated from the competition. We had a chance to chat with these ladies one on one and hear about their experience on the show. Keep reading for all the details!
Let me start by saying what a sweet pair of ladies both Avis White and Sheena Zadeh are, it’s a shame we won’t be seeing more of these ladies…yet anyway, who knows what the future holds for them! Here is what they wanted to share with us.
RTVM: Were you ladies shocked to be the first two eliminated from Masterchef?
Sheena Zadeh: It was quite a shocker to me. We had two challenges and I watched as people had two bad dishes, and two mediocre dishes, while I had one really great dish that landed me in the top three.
Avis White: I was shocked as well, but overall it was a great experience and I got to do what I love to do and that’s cooking.
RTVM: Sheena, do you feel like you should have not been sent home because you did that one amazing dish?
Sheena Zadeh: I don’t think I should have been sent home as I stated, but this is just a prime example that you have to make each challenge count. I hate it that I had to be the example setter, but I feel like it was. I had such an amazing experience though on the show.
RTVM: So if either of you were given a second chance, what would you do differently if anything?
Sheena Zadeh: I would have expressed myself more in my dish. You know, I did do pickled cabbage in that hour, so I thought it was all good. I would have sauteed some onions and done more to my dish, although I am not sure if I did it differently it would have made a difference.
Avis White: I don’t think I would have done anything differently, I am not good with cooking Chinese. I think had it been a different challenge with any other dish I would have made it through another round. I also feel if Whitney had chosen the duck or mushrooms we both (Sheena and myself) would have done better as that is more fit for a Chinese dish.
Sheena Zadeh: I agree with Avis. I went into that pantry and there were so many things I wanted to grab but they were not Chinese items. I mean, who cooks with mandarin oranges, that is something I pull apart and eat and not cook with.
RTVM: Avis, do you feel that the fact that your good old southern dishes were just too old fashioned looking and maybe that played a part in you getting sent home so early?
Avis White: Definitely. My plating is old fashioned, but my food tastes good and that’s what it is all about. It shouldn’t matter what it looks like as much as how well it tastes.
RTVM: So what was it like working with Gordon Ramsay?
Sheena Zadeh: It was intense, but great. He has an energy about him that is simply contagious.
Avis White: I really enjoyed working with him. Once you get to know him, he is a really compassionate person, yet tough in the kitchen.
RTVM: What’s next for you ladies?
Sheena Zadeh: You know going through the show and all the production became so addicting and interesting to me, I am working with an acting coach now and hopefully you will see me on television somewhere soon. I will still be cooking because it’s a passion that I love.
Avis White: I will be cooking. I have been cooking since I was seven years old and I love it. Hopefully one day I will have my own cooking show.
