Next Sunday night, Chris Harrison will take a break from his arduous job of overseeing rose ceremonies and challenges on The Bachelor Pad, The Bachelor, and The Bachelorette to discuss fashion and TV with celebs on the red carpet. The dating show host is covering the Emmy Awards live for the TVGuide Network. He talks about the excitement of live television, who he hopes will win (Glee! Modern Family!), and what he thinks about all the fashion…
In Chris Harrison’s day job as the host of The Bachelor Pad, The Bachelor, and The Bachelorette, he’s known for two catchphrases: “this is the final rose tonight” and “the most dramatic rose ceremony ever!” Next Sunday night, he’ll prove to the world that he’s got more skills that overseeing roses and romance when he interviews celebs on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards.
Despite the pressure of working on live TV, Chris Harrison says he loves the excitement and unpredictability of covering the red carpet. “I get extremely excited,” he says about filming live. “Having played sports my whole life I equate it to that feeling of being so excited and ready to go. I love that feeling of all this work, all this preparation, and it’s all done. In the next two hours, good or bad, you are on live TV.”
Although Chris Harrison isn’t a huge fashion buff, he says there will be plenty of discussion based around what the stars are wearing. “You can’t shy away, fashion’s important, that’s what a lot of people want to see,” he says. “Our audience is predominantly female and they want to know what the looks are. It’s funny to see how that equates to how it disseminates into American culture.”
Despite trying to be an unbiased journalist on the red carpet, Chris Harrison admits he has his favorites when it comes to the prospective Emmy winners. “I have my favorites, I would love to see someone in the comedy category like Jim Parsons break through, who I love and is a great guy,” he says. “I like it when it changes people’s lives. Like for the people from Modern Family, this will be a difference maker. The kids from Glee, this will change their careers. So I like when, say, a Matthew Morrison comes on the scene and a guy like that wins. I think we all want to see Jane Lynch up there. I just want to see Sue Sylvester’s acceptance speech.”
