If you worked for Jeff Lewis, star of Flipping Out on Bravo, you’d probably welcome a daily cocktail hour and try to escape once in awhile too! Jeff Lewis, the neurotic house flipper-turned-interior designer, chats with Us Weekly about his mandatory office cocktail hours, his worst job ever (doll house renovations), and his tight leash on housekeeper Zoila. Keep reading for more details…

With his crazy staff and unusual clientele, it’s no wonder Jeff Lewis, star of Flipping Out on Bravo, demands a daily cocktail hour at 6pm sharp. Over the past six to eight months, the happy hour has become routine for the staff of Jeff Lewis Design, but it wasn’t always an easy thing to control. “We used to start cocktail hour at 5 p.m. at my office and we’ve done that probably for a good 6 to 8 months, but some of my employees were not drinking responsibly and they were drinking a little too much too fast, so the problem was that they were less productive,” Jeff Lewis tells Us Weekly magazine. “So, now I’ve officially moved cocktail hour to 6 p.m. Because 5 p.m. they were getting a little too loopy too fast. And when I say ‘they,’ I really mean me. My default method is to just blame somebody else, but yeah, it’s actually me.”

It’s no surprise that Jeff Lewis demands vast quantities of liquor daily when he has to deal with an ongoing stream of challenging clients with unusual projects. During this season of Flipping Out, fans have witnessed Jeff take on his first-ever restaurant remodel as well as the typical home renovations, but there’s one crazy project that didn’t make it on TV. “I was asked to design and build a state-of-the-art walk-in closet for doll clothes,” Jeff Lewis says. “I mean, I’m talking little wardrobe bars and little drawers and little hangers. She would not sign the release [to be on the show]. I was working on her home for probably about 6 months and I have to say it was a rough road with her and it was a little depressing.”

Fortunately, when he’s at home, Jeff Lewis can rely on his trusty housekeeper, Zoila, to keep him organized and entertained. The pair have a comical and tense relationship, but Jeff jokes about keeping a tight leash on the sharp-tongued maid. “I have to keep a close eye on her, she’s tried to escape a few times,” he says. “I’ve spent a lot of money on bounty hunters, finding her and bringing her back. I’ve spent a lot of time combing bus stations, train stations, airports looking for her and I just don’t want to lose any more beauty sleep over it. She’s on a very short leash, because I can tell she’s getting kind of squirrely, I think she wants to leave.”

Tune into Flipping Out on Bravo every Tuesday night at 9pm for Jeff Lewis’ adventures!
