American Idol: Fantasia Rises To The Top!

September 02, 2010 11:00 AM by Jennifer

Things are looking up for American Idol season three winner Fantasia Barrino. After reports of a recent drug overdose and suicide attempt, the singer now has a reason to smile! Keep reading to hear about her latest release!

Fantasia’s third album, titled Back To Me, debuted on Billboard’s R&B chart at number one, and number 2 on the chart for Top 200 albums in it’s first week of sales, outnumbering her previous two albums. It is the first #1 R&B album and for the singer, as well as her highest Billboard Top 200 chart ranking. The season three winner is following in the footsteps of former winners Carrie Underwood and Daughtry, who also topped the charts last week, however, she was the only Idol alum that made the Billboard chart’s top 40.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, Fantasia saw the week’s biggest download increase with her single, Bittersweet, which more than tripled its week-over-week sales, bringing the sales total for her single to 50,000. Although her recent reported drug overdose did not help her album sales, many were shocked to see that this third album actually outsold Eminem’s recent album!

This is good news for Barrino, and hopefully a sign of things to come!
