Top Chef: Was Kenny Gilbert Eliminated Too Soon?

Kenny Gilbert definitely proved to be one of the strongest personalities in the Top Chef house this season on Bravo. Kenny Gilbert was also eliminated much sooner than most thought he should have been, leaving his fans up in arms. Should Kenny have gone home or should Alex have gone home that week? Tom Colicchio opens up in his blog about the judges’ reasoning and Kenny also speaks out on his thoughts. Keep reading for all the details!
With Kenny Gilbert’s fans up in arms after his elimination a few weeks ago, Tom Colicchio immediately blogged about the decision joking that “We killed Kenny, we’re bastards” and then getting serious and stating “he chose to make two dishes and both were woefully poor”. Tom continues to inform fans that the reason Alex was not eliminated was simple and very clear: he was on the winning team. Tom Colicchio also compared Kenny to Tre from season three of Top Chef on Bravo by stating “Kenny was like Tre in Season Three – he assumed a lot of responsibility…and ultimately made more mistakes”.
So what did Kenny Gilbert think about his elimination? According to insiders who have spoken to Kenny, Kenny does not blame anyone but himself for his elimination, but he also feels that Alex did not play by the rules and he should have gone home for not creating his own dish 100%. Kenny also commented on his rivalry with fellow competitor Angelo: “It’s funny how Angelo and I are pegged as being against each other. We were tasting each other’s food all the time and giving each other feedback and compliments. That wasn’t really shown.” Kenny also says that he has a special relationship with every contestant who was in the house with him, and nothing will change that. Top Chef should allow exceptions to the format, especially when the cameras catch a contestant in a lie. Chef Ramsay does this on his show, especially when rivals nominate the wrong person for elimination. When it was obvious that Alex stole the Pea Puree and got kudos for how good it was, he should have been booted, if not instead of, in addition to Kenny.
