Although America’s Got Talent‘s no-nonsense judge, Piers Morgan, will be continuing with the NBC talent show as it enters it’s sixth season, it has been rumored that he is negotiating with CNN to take over for retiring interview icon, Larry King, as well. Keep reading for the latest on Piers’ status with both networks…

UPDATE! CNN just announced that it is official and that Piers Morgan will indeed replace Larry King starting in January.  Piers, who hosts a news show on British TV, will star in a similar news show for American audiences.  This guy is getting very busy!  What does it mean for his future on America’s Got Talent?

If you love Piers’ cutting edge style on America’s Got Talent, relax. Piers recently inked a deal with NBC to remain with the show for three years. But that doesn’t mean he’s out of the running for Larry King’s post.

According to the L.A. Times, Morgan’s new contract with NBC allows him the flexibility to negotiate for the coveted 9: 00 PM EST slot on CNN. Larry King announced his decision to retire from Larry King Live back in June.

Piers appeared recently on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards, and told the newspaper that he was actually very close to reaching a deal with CNN, saying he was nearing the end of negotiations and anticipating a happy resolution.  He also noted that his personal interview style would differ significantly from King’s.  Piers hosts ‘Piers Morgan’s Life Stories’ in his native Britain and is known for being forthright.

If Piers nabs the Larry King Live desk, it will be American Idol host Ryan Seacrest‘s loss – reportedly, he was Larry’s pick for successor.
