America’s Got Talent: Piers Morgan Buzzed Prince Poppycock!

September 15, 2010 11:56 AM by Candace Young

As everyone geared up for an intense and entertaining night on America’s Got Talent last night, no one imagined that during the live performances of the Final Four, an act would get the buzzer! Yet that’s exactly what happened when Piers Morgan buzzed Prince Poppycock! Read on to find out what all parties involved had to say after the show…

No one could have predicted that an act making it to the Final Four on America’s Got Talent could mess it up to the point where a judge would hit the buzzer, but that’s exactly what happened last night when Piers buzzed Prince Poppycock!  But did Poppycock deserve it?

Sharon Osbourne certainly didn’t think so! She lambasted Piers Morgan after the move, calling him selfish for doing such a thing, and adding that it was Prince Poppycock’s night, not his!

Howie Mandel seemed to share Piers’ concern on-air that Poppycock’s operatic performance came across as too serious, but after the show in a joint interview with People Magazine, Howie qualified his feelings, saying to Piers, “I think he deserved your criticism, but the X is like our middle finger. And he didn’t deserve your finger.”

Piers defended the buzz, explaining, “I only use the X when I think that contestant has reached the end of the road. Poppycock lost his sense of fun and became a bit self-indulgent. And since there’s no next round in the competition, the only way to say ‘You’ve blown it, you can’t win,’ was the X.”

What was Poppycock’s take on the whole thing? He told People, “I’m feeling fantastic. Piers is a big ninny. If anything, he’s just looking to be divisive and create tension. It was just unfortunate. The act did not go perfectly because I had some technical difficulties but all in all, I have no regrets and no excuses.”
