Everyone’s been talking about the exciting, and to some, surprising outcome of America’s Got Talent this season! Michael Grimm was stunned with the win after it came down to him and 10 year-old opera singer extraordinaire, Jackie Evancho.  What did Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne, Howie Mandel, and host Nick Cannon think of the result? Read on to find out, as well as to hear what Michael did right after winning!

Michael Grimm had maintained that if he won America’s Got Talent he would use the money to build his grandparents a new home (they lost theirs in Hurricane Katrina), and would propose to his longtime girlfriend, Lucy.  Michael wasted no time in following through on one of those promises; while appearing on The Ellen Degeneres Show after winning AGT, Ellen called Lucy up to join them, and Michael proposed on bended knee! Lucy accepted of course and they shared a joyful kiss!

This only cements the idea that the prize money went to a very deserving person.  Creative Director, Brian Friedman, in a post-result interview with Reality TV Magazine, commented that Michael was more ‘relatable’ than Jackie for adults, and that due to his back story, people wanted to see him win the million dollars.

So, were the judges shocked by the outcome?  Not Howie Mandel. He insists he called it the first time Michael performed and told media, “I’ve never wavered. He is the whole package. He has what appeals to the widest range of people. Jackie Evancho is certainly a phenomenon and amazing. Her talent is inexplicable, but how many young girls were voting to see a ten-year-old opera singer?”

After the big announcement, Nick Cannon said, “It was definitely shocking. I called it [Tuesday] night, but I didn’t think I was going to be right.”

Sharon Osbourne also weighed in with media, saying, “I think the outcome is right. Michael has never had a break in his life. He’s 30 years-old, he knows what this means, he understands how huge this is. He gets it. Everybody loves an underdog, and when you see somebody that’s been knocking on doors for years and years and has got turned away at every knock,  you want them to go for it.”

Piers Morgan, sincerely surprised at the outcome, called it a big shock, but told the press, “Michael Grimm’s a great singer. I’m very proud of him. He’s a very humble, sincere, genuine guy, [with a] great voice. No shame losing to him – he’s great.”
