As Survivor moved to Wednesday nights for its 21st season after a successful stranglehold on Thursday nights throughout the last few years, last week’s premiere dominated television.  Survivor: Nicaragua opened with a strong debut at number one that night opposite finales of America’s Got Talent on NBC and MasterChef on FOX.

CBS says the premiere of Survivor: Nicaragua was the Wednesday night”s number one television program for adults 18-49 and 25-54.  This marks big increases across the board when compared to last September’s premiere of Survivor: Samoa, which took place on a Thursday.  According to a press release, the premiere of Survivor: Nicaragua last week was up more than 13 percent from last year in adults 25-54, up 11 percent in adults ages 18-49 and up eight percent in adults 18-34.

This resulted in an overall successful night for CBS as the finale of Big Brother 12 also brought a big viewing audience — up slightly from last year, too.  That two-hour finale struck immediately after millions watched Wendy get voted off Survivor first.

Can Survivor hold its momentum and maintain the solid audience it brought in on its new night?  Let’s all hope so.

19 contestants remain.  Find out who will be voted out next on Wednesday night!
