America’s Next Top Model: Australia Version Names Wrong Winner On Live TV

September 28, 2010 12:49 PM by Rebecca Ford

We now know the reason why Tyra Banks and America’s Next Top Model would never do a live finale. A video from Australia’s Next Top Model has surfaced, in which the host makes an embarrassing blunder by announcing the wrong name for the winner of the show.

The shaky video that’s been making the rounds shows the host of Australia’s Next Top Model, Sarah Murdoch announcing the winner of the season on live TV.

The only problem? She names the wrong winner. After she announces that Kelsey Martinovic is the new champion, Martinovic begins to thank her friends and family. Then, Murdoch’s ear starts buzzing as, we can only assume, the producers starts screaming into her ear piece.

After a really awkward silence, she announces that the real winner is Amanda Ware. Awkward! This would never happen to Tyra Banks, the pro host of America’s Next Top Model. Probably because she’s smart enough to never do a live show.

The creators of the show promise this was not  a publicity stunt. ”We had this great idea that we wouldn’t use a card, so that I would find out at the same time,” Murdoch, who is also executive producer of the show, told The Australian.

The great idea didn’t turn out so great.

Here’s the cringe-worthy video:
