On tomorrow night’s Top Chef: Just Desserts, Seth’s melodramatics continue to alienate the rest of the contestants as they are faced with their latest challenge. The episode, which appears to be sponsored by Breyers, requires the chefs to make the ultimate ice cream sundae while impressing guest judge Gale Gand.
Upon hearing what the challenge is, Seth thinks he’s got it in the bag. Gail Simmons further explains the judges want to amused, over-indulged and “to see sundaes like we’ve never seen them before.” Seth quickly becomes deflated upon learning they will not be making their own own ice cream and presumably using Breyers. It seems like that would make the challenge easier, but Seth is none too pleased.
The woman the chefs have to impress this week, Gale Gand, is the Executive Pastry Chef and partner of TRU in Chicago, which is a four-star Mobil, five-diamond AAA, Relais Chateaux Relais-Gourmand restaurant. Gale was named Outstanding Pastry Chef by the James Beard Foundation and Bon Appetite magazine’s Pastry Chef of the Year in 2001. She was also recognized as one of Food & Wine‘s Top Ten Best New Chefs in 1994.
Top Chef: Just Desserts isn’t Gale Gand’s first foray into TV, as she was also the host of Food Network’s first all dessert show “Sweet Dreams” and the host of “The Answered Chef,” an online educational cooking series. She’s previously appeared on Top Chef, “Martha Stewart,” “Oprah,” “Iron Chef America,” and “The Today Show.” The acclaimed pastry chef is currently working on a new show for PBS called “The Heirloom Recipe Project.”
