American Idol: Bret Michaels Claims He Was A Top Contender To Be A Judge

October 15, 2010 01:00 PM by Allyson Wells

Just in time for his own new reality show, Life As I Know It, Rock of Love star Bret Michaels is claiming that he was a contender to be a judge on American Idol.  Not only does Bret claim he was a contender, he claims that he was a top contender.

Bret recently told MTV that he made it to the list of top 5 contenders.  “I was disappointed. I’d love to have done it. I’m competitive, so it would have been great. On the other hand, to have J. Lo and Steven Tyler-one’s a pop icon and one’s a rock legend and both, along with Randy, are going to make such awesome TV.  I can truly say I lost to a worthy opponent.  Tyler lays it out there; sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s crazy, and I love that about him. I think he’s going to be able to give them great advice and I know J.Lo has been through it all in maybe a different area.  There are people in there who are more musician orientated and others who are more pop orientated. I think they’ve got it covered, and Randy’s an amazing producer.”

Fox and American Idol have not commented on Bret’s claims.  However, Bret is excellent at self-promotion.  It’s no surprise that Bret would endorse himself just as his latest reality show on VH1 is about to start.  Perhaps the producers based their decision on musicians who had more extensive and recently successful musical experience, as opposed to singing the same few hits from the ’80s.
