Extreme Makeover Home Edition: Arboleda Family!

October 17, 2010 05:57 PM by Candace Young

On tonight’s episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition on ABC, Ty Pennington, the design team, and dancers from Dancing With the Stars surprise the Arboleda family of Neenah, Wisconsin with a home makeover. Read on for all of the highlights…

The Arboleda family came to America from the Phillipines to pursue their dreams. Rhex Arboleda is a music teacher who has developed a program to combat childhood obesity. He currently teaches it in three elementary schools in the region. Consequently,  Derek Hough from Dancing With the Stars has been recruited to help out this week.

Ty explains that they will surprise the Arboleda family at an outdoor market with a flash mob – where many people suddenly start dancing. They will use Rhex Arboleda’s music as the song they dance to. The design team gets in position, the music starts, and soon the crowd is dancing as Rhex Arboleda and his family react.  Just then, the Extreme Makeover Home Edition bus pulls up and Ty emerges! Rhex is in tears.

Paige, Michael, Xzibit, Derek Hough, Ty, and the family get on the bus and go to their house to meet the builders from Lexington Homes.  They go through the Arboleda’s current home which is tiny and cramped. Michael and Xzibit learn that the kids love super heroes. Ty tells the family they are headed to Walt Disney World for a vacation.

Ty contacts the family once they’re on vacation and tells them that Derek Hough invited some friends from Dancing With the Stars to help with the demolition; Mark Ballas, Chelsie Hightower, and Tony Dolovani join the others for a dancing demo.

In Dancing With the Stars tradition, the dance instructors comment on the design team members’ progress as they attempt to learn the steps for the demolition. The Arboleda family cheers them on as the old house comes down!

As the new house begins, Derek Hough stands in what will be the basement with Paige and announces this will be the dance studio. They give it a whirl! Xzibit is planning a room for the kids to practice their karate and to display their belts.

As they plan a living room big enough for the whole family, Ty pulls up in a funky delivery truck – he wants Rhex Arboleda’s music and dance program to be mobile! Michael, Paige, and Xzibit are asked to make it happen.

Ty contacts the family in Walt Disney World and tells Rhex that kids all over Wisconsin are ready to try his program – as well as at Walt Disney World! A huge crowd of children swarm into the area behind the family and they all ‘Move to the Groove’! Rhex says he’s on cloud nine.

As the build continues, ninjas help out with the karate room, and Xzibit is pimps the delivery truck.  Soon it’s time for the furniture to be moved inside. Derek Hough reflects on being a part of something so special. The dance studio is also ready and Derek, Paige, and a few volunteers give it a test run.

The Arboleda family is back from vacation and it’s time for the crowd to chant, “Move that bus!”  When Rhex and his family see the new home they sob tears of happiness and thank the builders, who tell them their mortgage is paid for!  The family is sent to check out the house.  Ty joins them as they marvel over the spacious interior.

The kids run upstairs to see their rooms. The daughter is ecstatic to have her own space for the first time ever. The youngest boys’ colorful, climbing-themed room comes complete with a ball pit.  The older boys’ bedroom is the karate-theme – they love it!  The kids can also climb up a ladder to their super hero room – the boys are screaming with delight. Ty shows them that they even have costumes.

The parents also have a new bedroom with ensuite bath and a walk-in closet.  They open a hope chest containing five albums of photos they brought from the Phillipines. Next, it’s time to go dance in the basement! Derek Hough gets the kids dancing and playing music. Paige says Kimberly-Clark has donated a year’s supply of their products.  They also get a college-fund in the amount of $100,000!  Ty takes the family outside to see the ‘Move to the Groove’ mobile studio, which Xzibit is driving.  Rhex calls it all ‘spectacular’. Ty welcomes the Arboleda family home and dancing ensues!
