The latest season of American Idol has had no shortage of drama. Many people, including singer Bret Michaels, have recently spoken out and claimed they were contenders to be a new judge on the show. While Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler filled that role, now Elton John is not only speaking out about why he declined to be a judge, but also on why he hates American Idol.
Elton John recently spoke with UK’s Daily Mail and thinks that reality show winners and contestants don’t stand a chance at maintaining long-spanning careers. “I’m not a fan of talent shows. I probably wouldn’t have lasted if I’d gone on one. i was asked to judge ‘American Idol.’ I couldn’t do it because I won’t slag anyone off.”
Elton does admit that while there are talented individual to grace the shows, a quick rise to fame is not the way to success. “There have been some good acts, but the only way to sustain a career is to pay your dues in small, s**t clubs.”
As for being a judge, Elton definitely has no aspirations to appear on the show. “I don’t want to be on television. It’s become boring, paralyzingly brain crippling. I like Simon Cowell, but what he does is TV entertainment,” John added.
It sounds like we won’t be having an Elton John theme night any time soon on the new season of American Idol. At least we can always listen to former American Idol contestant William Hung’s version of Elton’s Rocket Man that appeared on his album.
