See, it isn’t all bad for Project Runway resident crybaby Michael Costello now that he didn’t make it to Fashion Week. The Lifetime star was voted out on last Thursday’s tension filled show, and in turn, gave viewers quite a show when broke down and bawled his eyes out. Now that he’s regained his composure, he’s going to be the Grand Marshal of the 19th Annual Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade on December 4.
The spectacular lights parade, which can bring in as many as 80,000 people to downtown Palm Springs, will kick off with Costello, a Palm Springs resident, leading the way. He will also light the city’s holiday tree during a tree lighting ceremony with the Palm Springs City Council!
“I’m so honored to be asked to take part in these two very special holiday events in Palm Springs,†said Costello. “I can remember growing up as a kid and my family would take me to the Festival of Lights Parade — and later on when I had my own kids, I would take them to see it. It’s our favorite parade and we’re so excited to be a part of it!â€
Costello is a Palm Springs-based fashion designer who made a name for himself long before Project Runway came calling. He has made garments for Hollywood celebrities including Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan and even Salma Hayek. Now all that hard work is paying off.
“This year’s Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade will be more fashionable than ever thanks to local hero Michael Costello,†said Mayor Steve Pougnet. “I encourage everyone in the Coachella Valley to bring their families to downtown Palm Springs for our spectacular holiday tree lighting and Festival of Lights Parade because when it comes to celebrating the spirit of the holiday season, Palm Springs truly is like no place else.â€
Seems like Costello might have a new career calling if fashion doesn’t work out!
