The New York Post is reporting that Mariah Carey is going to be joining Simon Cowell as a judge on the US version of his show, X Factor. Simon recently said that a recently contacted the show about being a judge. While he did say that no one had officially been confirmed, he did say that the singer judge was a huge star.
If Mariah Carey is to join the X Factor, it would mean that there is likely no room for the British singer and judge of the UK Version, Cheryl Cole. Simon has been pushing for Cheryl to join the show, but she is not as well known in the United States. Simon told the London newspaper News of the World, “Look, I’ve said I’d love Cheryl out there but whether it will happen, who knows?” A source recently revealed to the UK newspaper the Sunday mirror that Fox executives are totally against Cheryl joining the judging panel. “They’re saying that together with her accent being difficult to understand, and nobody knowing who she is, she doesn’t have the star qualities to draw in an audience.”
Simon did seem to think Mariah would be a good fit for his show. “Mariah Carey would be an amazing addition to the show. And she’s exactly the right caliber of star that we want for the show.” Mariah’s husband, Nick Cannon, is also employed by Simon and is the host of America’s Got Talent. Mariah’s name was previously mentioned as a possible judge on American Idol, but that job went to Jennifer Lopez.
