If you were routing for Tom Pizzica to take home the crown on the season finale of The Next Food Network Star, you will be excited to learn that Food Network will be airing a new series in November called “Outrageous Food” starring none other than Tom Pizzica himself, and Tom spoke to us today about the new show. Keep reading for all the details!
That’s right fans, The Next Food Network Star runner up, Tom Pizzica will be starring in a new series “Outrageous Food” premiering on Food Network on November 5th at 10 pm EST. Tom took a few moments today to chat with us about his new series as well as his experience on The Food Network Star. Enjoy our exclusive interview with Tom:
RTVM: Congratulations on the new series, can you tell us what we can expect from Outrageous Food?
Tom Pizzica: I am very excited about the premiere of Outrageous Food. In the series I will be taking my “Big Chef” personality and giving the viewers a taste of the most outrageous foods out there. In the series we will discover everything from the spiciest, biggest, boldest foods out there. We’ll be exploring chef’s who had an outrageous idea and just decided to go for it.
RTVM: Will you be doing any cooking in this series?
Tom Pizzica: Actually, I will be cooking a lot. Basically, I will be breaking down these foods as well as tasting them. This is a job that a lot of people wish they could have [laughing].
RTVM: It sounds like you’re having a blast with it?
Tom Pizzica: I am, all of it has been really fun and exciting. The best part is the people, and I have to say that everything I have tasted is amazing. It’s amazing to see the amount of care and love that these folks put into it. They are so passionate about their foods and they just go for it and manage to pull it off perfectly.
RTVM: Was this show your idea or were you approached by Food Network?
Tom Pizzica: Food Network aired a special a few months back about Outrageous Food, so it has been an idea all along and I guess I just fit the part.
RTVM: Your pilot on the season finale of The Next Food Network Star did so well, did you think you were going to win at that point?
Tom Pizzica: We were all nervous, but none were better than the other. We were just three talented people, I can’t say that one was better than the other.
RTVM: What did you take from your experience on The Next Food Network Star?
Tom Pizzica: The experience taught me how to be a star. It helps you reflect on yourself and take that information and do everything you can with it. It’s still strange to me because on the set of Outrageous Food there are no judges and I am not about to be judged or kicked off, so I am still getting used to that [chuckles].
RTVM: Did you ever think you would get this far in your career?
Tom Pizzica: No, I didn’t. I mean, you always think “It would be nice to be on television” or whatnot, but you never actually imagine that you will be.
RTVM: So what made you audition for the show?
Tom Pizzica: My fiancee. She pushed me to follow her out there and audition. It was the road trip of a lifetime, but I knew when I got there that I needed something different. I mean, I knew I could have gotten into a restaurant but I was burnt out from an experience in Maryland. She pushed me to audition and I only agreed if she would sit there with me, and she did and the rest is history.
RTVM: Is there anything else you would like your fans to know?
Tom Pizzica: I would just like to thank them for all their support. It has been really cool and I appreciate them all.
Thank you Tom Pizzica for chatting with me! Be sure to catch Tom’s new series Outrageous Food on Food Network. There will be a sneak preview on October 31st, 2010 at 10 pm EST, followed by the series premiere on Friday, November 5th at 10 pm EST.
