Former Bachelorette star and fireman, Ryan Sutter, is using his celebrity and athleticism to raise money for a good cause. Ryan is participating in gruelling athletic challenges to raise money for cancer.
Ryan is participating in the First Descents Challenge, and has a goal of completing 10 athletic challenges. Along the way, he hopes to inspire 10,000 people to contribute $10 each. He hopes this will enable him to collect a total of $100,000 for First Descents. First Descents is a nonprofit organization that provides free outdoor adventure therapy for young adults with cancer. The program has grown from a single camp event and now runs nine week long programs in six different states.Â
Ryan spoke with the LA times about his intense training. “The point was to really challenge myself, to see what I could accomplish and to take some of the inspiration that I’ve gotten from watching some of the campers at First Descents.” Overall, Sutter has completed nine of the ten challenges. His final event will be the New York city marathon on November 7. Ryan’s total number of donors is 819 and he has raised a total of $38,640.40. Ryan said of the organization, “First Descents is able to do a lot with that much money. $100,000 is going to go a long way, so $10 is really a small price to pay.”
