The father of the balloon boy is back! Former Wife Swap star Richard Heene has a new scam to return to the public eye, and it does not involve endangering children or wasting manpower on wild goose chases.
Richard Heene is the proud inventor of “Bear Scratch.” It is a post that attaches to the interior or exterior wall that allows humans to scratch an itchy back the same way beards do in the wild. Heene says in a video promotion, “If you itch like a ‘son of a twitch’ there’s just one thing to do on the job.” The contraption sells for $19.99. He has not commented on if any of the proceeds will go back to taxpayers and law enforcement agencies that threw down a huge chunk of change on his hoax.
Richard’s invention is being launched a year after the hoax in which and his wife claimed that their 6-year-old son was trapped aboard a large silver weather balloon. While emergency personnel worked to save their child, he was hiding at home the entire time. Various agencies spent near $62,000 on the rescue efforts. Richard was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 60 days of work release.Â
Since doing time in the slammer, Heene and family moved to Bradenton, Florida. The state law required him to register as a convicted felon. His new criminal persona has not changed his own perception of himself as a public personality and reality star. He’s also been involved in a paranormal research group called “The Science Detectives” and recently video blogged about Life on Mars. He hasn’t had any comments on if you can reach space by balloon yet.
