For the past three weeks now we have witnessed Maksim Chmerkovskiy and his celebrity partner, Brandy heat up the dance floor on Dancing With The Stars on ABC, but who would have guessed that Maks was bullied as a child? Maks recently revealed that he was bullied growing up for..get this..being a dancer. Keep reading for all the details!
ABC’s hunkiest Dancing With The Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy revealed recently to In Touch that he was bullied as a child for dancing as he tells the magazine “I encountered bullying when I came to the U.S. I was not popular at all,†he solemnly reveals. “There was the usual sexuality-related stuff, people calling me gay. When I’d say I danced, people would act like I was diseased. I was beaten up. It hurt and was very upsetting.â€
Growing up in the USSR, Maks says they didn’t have much so when he discovered his gift for dance, he refused to give up on it and luckily had a great support system in his family. Maks went on to tell In Touch “I had an amazing support system. My parents told me that if you believe in what you do, you can prove people wrong with your success.†Ironically for all those who bullied Maks, look who has the last laugh now. For more on this story and Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s never before seen personal photos as well as his advice on how to rise above bullies, check out the latest issue of In Touch.
