Dancing With The Stars: Week Eight Performances!

November 08, 2010 08:00 PM by Lisa Princ

Dancing With The Stars is back tonight on ABC and the competition gets tougher in the hunt for the mirror ball trophy. This week the teams will perform two routines each. With double the chances to win the judges and the viewers over, which couples will come out on fire and which ones have burnt out? Keep reading for all the details on the week eight performances!

ABC’s Dancing With The Stars kicks off week eight performances tonight with two routines. Each of the five remaining couples performed one ballroom dance routine and also one “instant dance” in which the couples had chosen the latin dance, but did not get their song until after their first performance. After getting the scores for the first performance the couples reached into a mirror ball to select and envelope with their “instant dance” song inside. Let’s see how our couples did tonight!

Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer
Kyle and Lacey were first up tonight with the Viennese Waltz. During rehearsals Lacey was extremely hard on Kyle and his footwork and it paid off big time during their performance as they looked phenomenal. For the first time all season Kyle looked like a grown up dancing instead of a comical kid and his footwork was spot on. The judges all agreed that this was his best performance of the season and gave them a score of 27. Next Kyle reached into the mirror ball and picked out their next song which would be “Good Golly Miss Molly”.

Kyle and Lacey performed the Jive for their instant dance and it was full of energy and very fun. This seemed to be much more of Kyle’s style and he had a blast doing it. The judges loved it and I have to agree that it was definitely one of the most entertaining performances to date. They earned two 10′s for this routine, giving them a total of 29 for their instant dance, along with their 27 from the earlier performance gives them a 56 out of 60 for the night.

Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Brandy and Maks performed the Waltz and they showed us how in tune they were during the rehearsals and their performance just proved it. Once again Brandy and Maks brought down the house tonight with their perfect performance. They were beautiful, emotional and it was like watching a love scene, not a dance. They scored two 10′s this week giving them a score of 29 and then Brandy pulled out there next song which would be “Teenage dream” by Katy Perry.

Brandy and Maks performed a cha cha cha for their instant dance and they were spectacular once again. The only complaint that the judges had was that they did not come out and dance instantly which left Maks debating them that it was an instant dance as in instantly learning the song to dance to. After debating for a few minutes, the judges decided to give them a score of 28 for a total of 57 out of 60 for the evening, which ties them in first place with Jennifer and Derek.

Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya
Kurt and Anna performed the Waltz for their first routine and Kurt looked very polished this week and did extremely well. For being an NFL player, he was very graceful and they looked beautiful together. Carrie Ann (with Len agreeing) referred to Kurt as a “Ken doll” of ballroom dancing. Bruno did manage to let Kurt know however that there were other dancers better than he, which Kurt took no offense to. The couple scored a 24 this week and when Kurt had to choose their next song, they got “Hella good” by No Doubt.

For their instant dance, Kurt and Anna performed a cha cha cha and it was a lot of fun to watch. Kurt’s kids showed up for rehearsals which was sweet and comical, and Kurt performed this last minute song very well. I have to say I think he deserved a better score for this one, but the judges thought he deserved another 24 for this performance. You could hear the disappointment in the crowd as well with the scores, but in any event Kurt and Anna ended up with a 48 out of 60 total for the evening.

Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough
Jennifer and Derek performed the Quickstep for their first routine and despite Jennifer having a case of tendinitis they performed almost flawlessly. Bruno even commented that they reminded him of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and they also scored a 27 on the leader board and then Jennifer reached into the mirror ball to choose their next song which would be “Waiting for a girl like you” by Foreigner.

For their second performance Jennifer and Derek performed a Rumba for the instant dance, and just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, it does, despite the fact that neither of them claimed to know the song itself. They performed a romantic Rumba flawlessly and the judges agreed as they got three 10′s for this routine, giving them any overall total score of 57 out of 60.

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas
Bristol and Mark performed the Argentine Tango for their first routine tonight and during rehearsals Bristol and Mark took a trip to see Bristol’s family. Bristol got to rehearse in front of Sarah and Todd Palin, with Sarah cheering her on and telling her to dominate the dance, it was quite comical. Their performance was definitely one of her better performances, but she definitely needs to work on getting in to character more. The judges gave them a 24 for their score and for their next song, Bristol pulled out “Mas que nada” which neither of them had any clue as to what it was.

For their second performance and instant dance Bristol and Mark performed the Samba and it was all over the place for me. Bristol had a lot of personality on this one, but her moves were inconsistent – one minute she looked great and the next she looked like she was confused as to what to do next. The judges gave them a 23 for this routine and I think that was doing this pair a favor because they certainly had the worst instant dance of the evening. They have a total of 47 out of 60 for the evening, placing them in last place once again.

That leaves Brandy and Maks as well as Jennifer and Derek in a tie for first place on the score board and Bristol and Mark in last place once again, although closely followed by Kurt and Anna. Make sure you go vote, vote, vote to save your favorites as we have seen in the past few weeks that judges scores do not ensure their safety. Then make sure to tune in tomorrow to Dancing With The Stars on ABC at 9 pm EST as five will be narrowed down to four couples!

This show is so rigged. The judges score the dancers strictly by favoritism, not merit. They are sore because the audience favors some that the judges haven’t favored as much. I realize that some of the dancers are a little better than others but why have the audience vote at all if the judges are going to ignore mistakes of their favorites and not others? I hope Kyle Massey wins. Bristol and Mark are obviously not favored by the judges and we’re sick of diva Brandy and whining, crying Jennifer.
