Singer Kelly Rowland is out this season as a judge on The Fashion Show and Iman is in. Her 14 years as a working model, plus her straightforward, biting commentary more than qualifies her to judge the new batch of contestants competing for $125,000, and the chance to create the ultimate collection. She’s more than just a former model though, as Iman has continued to build her brand in the world of beauty and style.
Iman’s first modeling assignment was for Vogue in 1976. An instant hit, she went on to work with designers Yves St. Laurent, Versace, Calvin Klein and Donna Karan. Her image has also been captured by well known photographers such as Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton and Annie Liebovitz.
With her modeling days behind her, Iman remains in the industry as the Founder and CEO of IMAN Cosmetics, Skincare and Fragrances. Her collection is the first line designed for all women of color. She has also added IMAN Home to her label, as well as Iman Global Chic, which is a line of handbags, jewelry and fashion accessories sold on HSN.
Aside from running her businesses, Iman is also active in the charities The Children’s Defense Fund, Action Against Hunger and Raise Hope for Congo. She has also written the books I am Iman and The Beauty of Color: The Ultimate Beauty Guide for Skin of Color and received the CFDA Fashion Icon Award in 2010.
