The Real Housewives of D.C. have stepped up to join the fight against bullying and to help make Facebook a harassment-free zone.
Cast members Mary Amons, Stacie Turner, Catherine Ommanney, and Lynda Erkiletian, along with a few of their husbands and BFF/stylist extraordinaire, Paul Wharton, have come together to rally behind the social networking site’s Safety Page, which aims to “provide you with updates and information to keep you and your family safe while using Facebook or surfing the Internet.”
The cast has put together a video that is featured on the page, and in it, Catherine Ommanney (better known as “Cat”) shares her own personal story about being bullied, not as a child, but as an adult.
“I’ve raised my girls to be extremely careful on the Internet and that includes being careful about the things they post,” says Cat. “Even comments that young people think are harmless could really hurt someone or put them in danger. I have personally experienced online bullying and found it deeply disturbing.” Cat adds, “It’s not something I would wish on anyone at any stage of their lives. I hope you’ll join me in educating young people to think twice before they post, and if something seems borderline, just don’t do it.
Paul Wharton also spoke of his experiences as a youth being bullied while struggling with his sexual identity, urging kids that are being harassed to “speak up and get involved.”
