It’s holiday season, and that means holiday parties. So who better to give you advice on throwing the perfect holiday get-together than a Countess? LuAnn de Lesseps of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York City offers her tips!

According to The Real Housewives of New York City star, LuAnn de Lesseps, “money can’t buy you class,” though it can help you throw a pretty nice party for the holidays! But money isn’t everything. As LuAnn told OK! Magazine in a recent interview, one of the most important parts of hosting a holiday party is planning ahead.

“As there is always a lot going on during the holidays, the best tip I can give is to send a ‘Save the Date’ so that people can put your party on their calendars,” de Lesseps told the magazine. “I suggest that you send invitations out at least a month to six weeks in advance.”

So if you’re planning a party for mid-December, that means you should  send your invitations out–wait…last week?!

As far as invitations go, LuAnn also offers advice on paper invites vs. e-vites…

“For parties of more than 15 guests, sending out a written invitation is always chic,” said de Lesseps. “For smaller gatherings, an e-vite works just as well. For big parties, you should send the invitation through the mail.”

And no more separate parties for each of your different groups of friends and family. LuAnn suggests mixing things up a bit to make for a better gathering, telling OK!,  “If you invite the right mix of people, your party will be vibrant and interesting. I suggest inviting a variety of people, young, old, rich, poor, artists and Wall Streeters, people from all walks of life.”

So what’s LuAnn’s secret to throwing a great party?

“You can ensure that your party is a hit by being organized, creative, and prepared. This way, when your guests arrive, you are relaxed and ready to be a great hostess.”

Translation: A nice glass of wine before the party starts.
