Now that the six celebrities of ABC’s spin-off series Skating with the Stars have been announced, it’s time to get to know the ice-skating pros that will be working with the celebs this season. Who are they? We’ve got all the details! Keep reading!
If you’re not a fan of figure skating, you may not be too familiar with the pros tapped to help the six celebs appearing on ABC’s Skating with the Stars. But remember…you didn’t know Maksim Chmerkovskiy either before he appeared on Dancing with the Stars, and aren’t you glad you know him now?!
So, to get you prepped for the show’s premiere, here’s a little background info on each of the six skating professionals.
Bethenny Frankel will be paired with ice skater Ethan Burgess. Burgess earned both bronze and pewter medals at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on 2004 and 2005, respectively. But where you’re more likely to have seen him is in the movie Blades of Glory, where he served as Jon Heder’s stunt double.
The Disney Channel’s Brandon Mychal Smith will actually be skating with Burgess’ former partner, Keauna McLaughlin (pictured). So she’s also got those bronze and pewter medals to show off, as well as two national titles (for 2008 and 2009) that she won with her last partner, Rockne Brubaker.
Jonny Moseley’s partner in the competition is Brooke Castille, winner of the 2007 U.S. pairs title with his former partner, Ben Okolski.
Soap star Rebecca Budig will take to the ice with Fred Palascak, who took fourth place in the pairs competition of the 1995 U.S. junior championships with his partner and future wife, Melanie Lambert.
Sean Young’s partner is Denis Petukhov, who represented the U.S. in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy and has toured with Champions on Ice.
And last, but certainly not least, rocker Vince Neil will be skating with Jennifer Wester, winner of the prestigious Nebelhorn Trophy in 2007, along with her partner, Danlil Barantsev.
Serving as the color commentator on the show (you know– the Brooke Burke role on DWTS) is the most decorated U.S. ice dancer in history–Tanith Belbin. British TV personality Vernon Kay is set to host.
Still no more word on the show’s judges, though unofficially, People Magazine has reported that Johnny Weir and Dick Button will be at the table. ABC is expected to make the official announcement next week.
Skating with the Stars premieres November 22nd on ABC.
