The ladies of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta are known for wanting (and getting) the finer things in life–big houses, fancy cars, expensive wigs…. So why is it that when it came time to donate money at Sheree Whitfield’s charity event, the best each of them could come up with was a check in the amount of a whopping twenty dollars?! See what Kandi Burress had to say about the Housewives’ less than respectable donations and why she didn’t give more.

This week’s episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta was full of surprises. We saw Cynthia Bailey get engaged, Sheree Whitfield on the dance floor, and Kim Zolciak practically undress her rumored boyfriend, Kroy Biermann, with her eyes. But what was most surprising was the Housewives’ donation at Sheree’s fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. The ladies (minus Phaedra Park, who was prepping for delivery) sat at a $1,500 table (paid for by Sheree), wearing thousands of dollars worth of clothes, jewelry–and hair–and when it came time to donate to the charity, each of them wrote a check for $20. And no, that’s not a typo.

To her credit, Kandi Burress did have some hesitation about contributing such a small amount, and she even took to her blog to clear up the whole donation issue.

“I do truly believe that if you’re going to go to a fundraiser that you’re supposed to contribute way more than $20,” says Burress. “I had brought my check book, because I knew we were supposed to donate something. When the girls said they were only going to give 20 bucks, I was thinking, ‘Come on y’all! We ca do better than that.’

“I did speak up, but they were like, ‘Kandi don’t be trying to over do it and make everybody look bad,’” Burress explains. “I should’ve just went with gut instinct, but I went along with the table, and now I’m looking real crazy.”

Kandi admits that she didn’t expect the donation discussion to actually air on the show, but recalls her disgust when she watched season 1 as a fan, and no one donated anything at DeShawn Snow’s fundraiser. “I was thinking how that was so whack of them not to support her at all. Now look at me, I’m part of the whack crew!”

Still, Kandi urges others to do what they can, writing, “People we must do better! Especially for charity.”

And to Sheree Whitfield, Kandi writes, “I would’ve been heated if I was her. The four of us only giving $20 a piece is not even a 100 bucks! We SUCK for that one… Sorry, Sheree!”
