In case you’re wondering, no–Nick Lachey does not live under a rock, and yes–he does know that ex-wife Jessica Simpson just got engaged to former NFL player, Eric Johnson. What does the host of NBC’s The Sing-Off have to say to the bride and groom to be? Keep reading to find out!
Nick Lachey and fiance Vanessa Minnillo had a whirlwind week “basking in the glow” of their engagement and celebrating both of their birthdays. But before the couple even got a chance to unpack, the news hit that Lachey’s ex-wife, Jessica Simpson, and her beau, Eric Johnson, were also engaged.
So what did Nick have to say about Jessica’s engagement–or better yet, Eric’s really bad timing?
“I will say the same thing I always say: I wish her the very best,” Lachey told UsMagazine.com during a conference call for The Sing-Off.
Though Nick and Jessica have obviously moved on, the public is still trying to cope with the couple’s 2005 divorce after falling in love with them on MTV’s reality show Newlyweds.
According to the statement that Lachey and Simpson released, their divorce was a “mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other.”
Nick Lachey began dating Vanessa Minnillo shortly after his divorce from Simpson was finalized. Jessica has since been in a few high profile relationships, before becoming involved with fiance Eric Johnson roughly six months ago.
When asked how she felt about Lachey’s engagement to Minnillo on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show last week, Simpson replied, “Our relationship was over a really long time ago, and it would be nice if everyone could move on with us and really just celebrate the love between him and Vanessa. I do, and I really wish them nothing but the best.”
Give us time, Jess. Give us time.
Season 2 of The Sing-Off premieres December 6th on NBC.
